How to get an API key for OpenAI?

An API key is a unique identifier that allows you to access an API (Application Programming Interface) and interact with a service, such as OpenAI. This page explains how to generate an API key at OpenAI, which is necessary if you want to use the AI Assist for Confluence app.

Here's how to generate an API key/bearer token at OpenAI:

Log in to your OpenAI account.
Click on your username located in the top-right corner of the page.
Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
Under the "API Keys" section, click on the "Generate New API Key" button.
Click "Generate API Key".
Your new API key will be displayed on the screen. Be sure to copy and save it in a safe place, as it will not be displayed again.

Do not share your API key with others, or expose it in the browser or other client-side code. In order to protect the security of your account, OpenAI may also automatically rotate any API key that we've found has leaked publicly.
