What does the Metadata Macros for Confluence app do?
The app provides you with six macros that can be added to Confluence pages to display various types of metadata related to the user, page, or space. This metadata includes details such as page title, creation date, version information, user details, analytics data, and space information.
How do I add a macro to my page?
To add a macro to your page, start editing your page and then click on the "Insert More Content" button. From there, select "Other macros," then type in the name of the macro you want to add (e.g., "User Metadata Macro"). Select your desired values and options, then click on "Insert."
Can I customize the data that is displayed by the macros?
Yes, each macro has several values and options that you can select to customize the metadata that is displayed. For example, the User Metadata Macro can display the user's display name, first name, account ID, or timezone. You can also add a context label for additional clarity.
What is a 'context label' and how do I use it?
A context label is a feature that allows you to add a label or a short description to the metadata displayed by the macros. This can provide more context and make it easier for users to understand the displayed information. You can add a context label by selecting the "Add Context Label" option when you add a macro to your page.
I can't see the Analytics Metadata Macro. What should I do?
The Analytics Metadata Macro is a premium feature and is only available to users on premium plans. If you're on a premium plan and still can't see the macro, please ensure that your plan is active and up-to-date. If the problem persists, please contact our support team.
Can I use these macros on any Confluence page?
Yes, these macros can be added to any Confluence page, provided you have the necessary permissions to edit the page.
Can I use multiple macros on a single page?
Yes, you can use as many macros on a single page as you need.
Why can't I add the metadata information directly into my page text?
Currently, we have a limitation on inserting metadata directly into the page text. This is due to an existing issue within the platform we use to build our app, Atlassian Forge.
The team at Atlassian is aware of this and is actively working on a solution. For more details, you can check the progress of this issue on the Atlassian site here.
We understand this might affect your user experience and we appreciate your patience as this gets resolved. We will ensure to provide updates and inform you as soon as this feature becomes available.
What is the difference between 'page status' and 'space status'?
Page status refers to the current state of a specific page, such as whether it's published or a draft. On the other hand, space status refers to the status of a whole space in which the page is located, such as whether it's active or archived.
What if the information I need is not available in the provided macros?
Our macros are designed to cover a wide range of use cases, but if you need specific information not covered by these macros, please contact our support team. We're always looking for ways to improve and would appreciate your feedback.
For any other questions or issues you may have, please don't hesitate to contact our support team.
Can I display both the total views and unique viewers on the same page?
Yes, with the premium Analytics Metadata Macro, you can display both the total views and unique viewers on the same page. Simply add the marcos twice to the page and make sure to select the correct option for each macro.
What do the 'page ID' and 'space ID' values represent?
Page ID and Space ID are unique identifiers generated by Confluence for each page and space respectively. These IDs can be used to reference specific pages or spaces within the system.
Can I use the macros to display metadata for a different page or space?
No, the macros display metadata for the current user, page, or space where the macro is being used.
What if I insert a macro, but it doesn't show any data?
This could be due to a lack of data for the selected metadata or a lack of permissions to access certain data. If you're unsure why a macro isn't displaying data, please contact our support team.
What's the difference between the 'Page Metadata Macro' and the 'Page Version Metadata Macro'?
The Page Metadata Macro displays information about the current state of the page, such as its title, ID, status, and tiny URL. The Page Version Metadata Macro, on the other hand, displays information about the specific version of the page, such as the version number, status, creation date, and author.
Can I hide certain metadata from certain users?
Other than the metadata provided by the User Metadata macro, metadata displayed is not user-specific, and the displayed metadata will be the same for all users. However, access to certain data may be limited by the user's permissions within Confluence.
Can I export the metadata shown by these macros?
Yes, when you export a Confluence page, the metadata displayed by the macros is included in the export. This allows you to keep track of key information when you take your content outside of the Confluence environment. However, please note that the layout and formatting may vary depending on the export format (PDF, Word, etc.).
Are these macros available in languages other than English?
As of now, the Metadata Macros for Confluence app is only available in English. If you require support in other languages, please contact our support team.
